Practise before you're assessed
Applying to a 911 communications centre? Run a practice module to get used to the format, the timing, and the typing, then see your results straight away.
This is practice only. It is not an application, no agency sees your results, and nothing is recorded about you.
Typing
Almost everything a call taker learns is typed while somebody is still speaking. These modules measure how fast and how accurately you type, and how well you hold up when the words keep coming whether you are ready or not.

Cognitive
Half the job is checking one thing against another while the clock runs — a plate against a list, an address against a map, a name against three screens that do not quite agree. These modules measure how reliably you match, compare and decide when the details are close enough to blur and there is no time to check twice.

Reading
Policy, procedure and other people's reports all have to be read quickly and acted on correctly, usually in the middle of something else. These modules measure how much you take in on a single pass, and whether you catch what a document actually says rather than what you expected it to say.
2 practice modules →
Math
Nobody asks a call taker to do algebra. They do ask how long an ambulance will be, how far out the nearest unit is, and what time an incident started if it began forty minutes ago. These modules measure quick, accurate arithmetic of the kind done in your head while somebody waits on the line.

Spelling
Everything you type becomes a record somebody else acts on — an address a unit drives to, a name that goes on a report, a narrative that may be read in court months later. These modules measure whether you catch the wrong word before it gets that far, including the ones that are spelled perfectly and are still wrong.

Navigation
Somebody will tell you where they are without knowing where they are, and a unit still has to get there by the fastest way. These modules measure how well you read a map under pressure — locating an address, judging distance and direction, and choosing a route rather than just a destination.
